What is Ford BlueCruise? | Haldeman Ford, Hamilton, NJ
Self-driving cars used to be something that could only be found in the world of science fiction. Now you can find them on American roads, and Ford BlueCruise is leading the charge. This cutting edge technology is taking the fantastical ideas of the future and bringing them into reality, using a combination of cutting edge technology and driver assistance features to create cars that quite literally drive themselves, allowing you to take a hands-off approach, sit back, and enjoy the ride. In a new Ford vehicle, you can experience this truly automated driving today!
How Does it Work?
The complicated technology of automated driving is actually built of building blocks that you’re probably familiar with. A collection of different driver assistance and safety features can come together to create a car that drives itself. The technology that powers cruise control and allows you to set your speed or following distance keeps you at a consistent pace, while lane keeping assist systems help you maintain your proper place on the road. Speed Sign Recognition technology also comes into play to help the car keep the correct speed. Altogether, these different tech systems create BlueCruise, the function that lets you keep your eyes on the road and your hands off the wheel.
How to Use It
Ford BlueCruise is currently available on over 130,000 miles of North American roads in both the US and Canada. These pre-mapped sections are called Hands-Free Blue Zones, and they’ve been plotted out to allow your car to drive itself along these stretches of highway. Simply go to your vehicle controls, find the Driver Assistance menu, and enable BlueCruise. Your instrument panel will light up blue to indicate that BlueCruise has been activated. From there, you can simply relax and enjoy!
What is BlueCruise Available On?
Ford BlueCruise is currently available as a feature on several different Ford vehicles, starting in the 2021 model year and continuing up to the present. Look for it on select trims of the Mustang Mach-E, the F-150, the F-150 Lightning, and the Expedition. In the future as BlueCruise tech advances, it will continue to become available on even more Ford vehicles!
